Cleary Gottlieb Receives LatinoJustice Pro Bono Publico Award

October 27, 2021

Cleary Gottlieb, along with seven peer firms, received the LatinoJustice 2021 Pro Bono Publico Award.

The award recognizes Cleary’s impactful work on several U-visa immigration cases over the last seven years. As part of this joint effort, Cleary worked with four immigration clients who were racially targeted by a Suffolk County police officer. These clients were pulled over in their vehicles, detained, and robbed by the officer in question, who has since been convicted and incarcerated for offenses against our clients and other immigrants.

Cleary assisted these clients with their petitions for U nonimmigrant status (U-visas), which are available for victims of certain crimes who assist law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity. We continue to work with three of these clients in order to obtain immigration relief for their spouses and children.

The Annual Awards Gala is LatinoJustice’s premier annual event where it honors institutional and individual leaders who help to advance its mission.
