The Nature Conservancy Launches Project Finance for Permanence Initiative in Gabon

Cleary Gottlieb represented The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in connection with the launch of a landmark Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiative in Gabon.

This PFP initiative, known locally as Gabon Infini, was announced on August 29, 2026.

Gabon Infini aims to mobilize up to $200 million over 10 years to support the government of Gabon deliver sustainable economic benefits in protected area landscapes, while also advancing its commitment to protect 30% of its terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems by 2030. Gabon Infini will fund critical projects to safeguard the country’s ecosystems and reinforce the foundations of a resilient, nature-based economy.

TNC is a global environmental nonprofit working to impact conservation in 83 different countries and territories. TNC, along with The Pew Charitable Trusts, World Wildlife Fund, and ZOMALAB, created the Enduring Earth partnership in 2020, an initiative that engages nations and local communities across the planet to accelerate lasting conservation. Central to Enduring Earth’s approach is the PFP model, which aims to establish and expand permanently protected areas and improve how they’re managed, secure long-term government commitments that achieve conservation at scale and bring economic and wellbeing benefits to communities.

A multidisciplinary Cleary team helped TNC in the preparation and negotiation of the key transaction documents for the Gabon Infini PFP.
