Cleary Gottlieb Recognized by The Bronx Defenders With 2018 In Pursuit of Justice Award

October 11, 2018

Cleary Gottlieb has been honored by The Bronx Defenders with a 2018 Collaborator In Pursuit of Justice Award for the firm’s efforts on a habeas corpus representation project for detained immigrants.

In Pursuit of Justice Award winners are selected on their commitment to fairness, justice, and equality. Cleary lawyers, in partnership with the Bronx Defenders, Brooklyn Defender Services, Arnold & Porter, Covington & Burling LLP, Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, and O’Melveny & Meyers LLP, filed habeas petitions on behalf of detained immigrants seeking bond hearings.

The firm joined the project in direct response to the increasing need to represent detained immigrants in federal court bond hearings. Cleary lawyers have represented five clients under the project, including successfully securing a reduced bond for a detained asylum seeker in a landmark bond case.

In 2013, Cleary was recognized as a Pro Bono Partner of the Year by The Bronx Defenders. Cleary is the only firm to have been honored by The Bronx Defenders twice.
