La Charca Founder Forms S Corporation

Cleary Gottlieb advised pro bono client Catherine Santiago in the formation of an S corporation, La Charca, a food business specializing in Spanish-style custard and Puerto Rican dishes.
Ms. Santiago was referred to Cleary through the Food Business Pathways Program at Start Small Think Big, a not-for-profit organization that partners with the New York City Housing Authority Office of Resident Economic Empowerment and Sustainability, the New York City Department of Small Business Services, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation, among others, to assist NYCHA public housing residents and Section 8 voucher holders in formalizing and growing their nascent food businesses.
La Charca was incorporated in the State of New York on March 18, 2016, and was recognized at the federal and state level as an S corporation on June 27, 2016, and July 28, 2016, respectively.
