Cleary Gottlieb won permanent residency for Penelope Gonzalez, a modern dancer with the Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre, on the basis of being an alien of extraordinary ability in the field of modern dance. This is the first time Cleary Gottlieb has represented a client applying for permanent residency on this seldom-granted basis. The U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services approved Ms. Gonzalez’s citizenship. Cleary Gottlieb had submitted Ms. Gonzalez’s application, including extensive supporting exhibits, to the Bureau in July 2004 following a two and a half year preparation process.
The Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre, a long-time Cleary Gottlieb pro bono client, is a ten-member modern dance company that has been showered with critical acclaim. The company was founded in 1991 by Artistic Director/Choreographer Pascal Rioult.
