Cleary Gottlieb Launches Comprehensive Foreign Direct Investment Guide in Partnership with Concurrences

April 15, 2026

Cleary Gottlieb, in partnership with Concurrences, published the Foreign Direct Investment Guide, with partners François-Charles Laprévote and Vladimir Novak serving as editors and contributing authors to the foreword.

Comprehensive and practical in its approach, this Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) guide combines a comparative perspective with analytical precision, making it an invaluable tool for both practitioners and policymakers.

FDI review has become a transaction-critical issue in M&A, affecting signing timelines, conditions precedent, risk allocation, and, increasingly, the viability of deals themselves. Covering 30 jurisdictions across Europe, the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific region, the guide is designed to address the practical questions that arise in every transaction.

Damien Levie, Head of EU FDI Screening at the European Commission, described the guide as “an essential resource for policymakers, investors, academics, and other stakeholders in the FDI ecosystem.”

The following Cleary lawyers also contributed to the guide:

  • Isabel Rooms - Belgium
  • François-Charles Laprévote, Séverine Schrameck, Aurèle Delors, and Stéphanie Patureau - France
  • Mirko von Bieberstein - Germany
  • Francesco Iodice - Italy
  • Romi Lepetska and Charlotte Benschop - Netherlands
  • Xavier Quer and Pablo González Casín - Spain
  • John Messent - UK
  • Chase Kaniecki, Samuel Chang, and B.J. Altvater - USA
