European Commission Proposes New Regulatory System for Hedge Funds and Private Equity Funds

The European Commission published a proposal for a Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers (the “AIFM Directive”). The AIFM Directive will regulate managers (“AIFMs”) of so-called “Alternative Investment Funds” (“AIFs”), in particular hedge funds and private equity funds.
