Finance Assistant
The purpose of the Finance Assistant is to support the London Accounting team combining hands-on finance responsibilities with practical exposure to accounting, financial controls and analysis in an international law firm.
Structured induction, guidance and regular feedback will support increasing ownership of agreed activities.
Responsibilities
- Review and process invoices, expenses and reimbursements, checking documentation, approvals and coding.
- Assist with supplier, corporate-card and reimbursement payments under the firm’s approval procedures.
- Support supplier set-up and maintenance, including checks on records and changes to payment details.
- Assist with account reconciliations and investigate differences with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Support month-end accounting, including preparing or entering journals for review.
- Use Excel and finance systems to check, organise and analyse financial information.
- Respond to routine finance queries, follow up outstanding items and escalate matters appropriately.
- Learn and apply VAT procedures and controls relevant to assigned tasks, including an introduction to the SRA Accounts Rules and client-money controls.
- Maintain supporting documentation and clear audit trails; contribute to practical process improvements.
- Take increasing ownership of agreed recurring activities as competence develops, with appropriate supervision and review.

- Organised and dependable, able to prioritise and follow tasks through to completion.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel.
- Clear, professional communication and a collaborative approach.
- Curiosity, willingness to learn and confidence to ask questions and seek guidance.
- Focus on developing technical and analytical skills.
Education and Experience
- Degree level or equivalent qualification in Maths, Finance, Economics or other relevant subject matter.
- Previous experience working in an administrative or financial role is advantageous.
