Cleary Gottlieb Team Named a Litigator of the Week Finalist for Representing the International Tennis Federation

Cleary Gottlieb partners Lina Bensman and Jeff Rosenthal led a team that was selected as a “Litigator of the Week” finalist by The American Lawyer’s Litigation Daily.

The team was recognized for representing the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the sport’s governing body, in litigation against the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), the organization that runs the highest levels of women’s professional tennis.

The ITF has accused the WTA of trying to remove the ITF’s representative on the WTA board in violation of the WTA by-laws. On April 29, U.S. District Senior Judge Victor Marrero in Manhattan granted ITF’s motion for a preliminary injunction to the ITF, finding that it would be harmed by the WTA’s moves and that the federation was likely to succeed on the merits of its claims.
