Cleary Gottlieb Ranked No. 1 in Latin America Restructuring Mandates

February 8, 2017

Debtwire has published its “Latin America Restructuring Mandates 4Q16,” and Cleary Gottlieb has been recognized as the No. 1 firm for restructuring mandates in the region, acting as counsel to corporate and sovereign clients on both the debtor and creditor sides in some of the region’s largest restructurings.

Cleary was ranked in the top spot with 12 total mandates, putting us far ahead of peer firms working in Latin America. Our firm was noted for work on matters in Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Chile and Mexico, notably representing clients in the ongoing restructurings of seven Brazilian companies and the largest private sector restructurings in Mexico and Chile, among others. These restructurings involve companies in a wide variety of industries  ranging from the energy and telecom sectors to construction and shipping businesses.

The news is the latest in a series of distinctions for Cleary’s Bankruptcy and Restructuring practice and its Latin American practice. Recent highlights include “Bankruptcy Practice Group of the Year” (Law360), “Private Restructuring of the Year” (The American Lawyer), “Restructuring of the Year” and “Latin America Law Firm of the Year” (LatinFinance), and “Bankruptcy Firm of the Year” (shortlist - Benchmark Litigation).
